Marching Band Normandy
The UNC Charlotte “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band has been selected as the official band to represent the United States in Normandy, France, in June 2018. The performance will mark the 74th anniversary of D-Day.  Each year, one band is chosen to represent the U.S. at the D-Day commemoration.

There are several participation options: 

           -If you are a current UNC Charlotte student and member of the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band and would like to participate in this historic trip and event, click the "Apply Now" button to begin an application today. 
           -If you are an alum* (or will be an alum at the time of program's departure) of UNC Charlotte and former member of the "Pride of Niner Nation" Marching Band and would like to participate in this program, please the "Apply Now" button to begin an application today. Please note that you will have a different conduct check process than current UNC Charlotte students.
           -If you are an alum* and former band member who would like to accompany the program but not participate in the performances, please contact the Program Directors using the information in the "Contact" tab of this brochure.

Please read all tabs of this online brochure carefully to familiarize yourself with the program before beginning an application.
All applicants are subject to review of their disciplinary record on file with the UNC Charlotte Dean of Students. Applicants on disciplinary probation or with any outstanding disciplinary sanctions at the time of application and/or prior to departure are not eligible to participate. More information on this policy is available within the application.
*Alumni of the UNC Charlotte Marching Band wishing to participate will be responsible for the same application, confirmation, and pre-departure processes and requirements as current UNC Charlotte students and must abide by UNC Charlotte's policies and deadlines. Alumni wishing to participate must comply with the procedures outlined within the application to verify their disciplinary history.

  • Overnight flight to France
Friday, June 1
  • Arrival into Paris, Charles De Gaulle Airport. Meet your tour manager at baggage claim. Retrieve your luggage, clear customs and board your private motor coach. Depart for Normandy
  • Lunch on own
  • Early afternoon arrival in Normandy. Check into your hotel
  • Visit to Arromanches - enjoy the D-Day 360 Museum and film “In the Round.”
  • Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight
Saturday, June 2
  • Breakfast provided
  • Tour other D-Day Sites, including Pointe du Hoc and Utah Beach
  • Transfer to St. Mère Eglise to tour the town and prepare for the D-Day Memorial Parade
  • Perform as part of the Musical Salute to Liberation in the town square of St. Mère Eglise
  • Lunch on own
  • Afternoon D-Day Memorial Parade
  • Post-parade picnic dinner
  • Return to the hotel for overnight
Sunday, June 3
  • Breakfast provided at the hotel
  • Morning transfer to the American Cemetery at Saint-James in Brittany
  • Performance and Ceremony at the Cemetery in honor of the American veterans of WWII
  • Transfer to Mont St. Michel for a tour of this one-of-a-kind medieval town and fortress abbey
  • Lunch on own
  • Enjoy the evening at leisure
  • Dinner

Monday, June 4
  • Breakfast provided
  • Morning transfer to the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach
  • Performance and Ceremony at the Cemetery in honor of the American veterans of WWII
  • Depart for Paris (approximately 4-hour drive)
  • Upon arrival in Paris, enjoy dinner in the Latin Quarter
  • Check in to your hotel
Tuesday, June 5
  • Breakfast provided
  • Morning visit to the Eiffel Tower (a ticket will be provided to the second level observatory)
  • Lunch on own
  • Afternoon guided tour of the city including Notre Dame, Champs Elysées, Arch de Triomphe, Opéra, and Montmartre
  • Dinner and evening in Montmartre
  • Return to the hotel for overnight
Wednesday, June 6
  • Breakfast provided
  • Visit to the Louvre Museum
  • Performance at Luxembourg Gardens in Paris
  • Afternoon for optional sightseeing and souvenir shopping in Paris

Participants must be in residence for the entirety of the program and attend all program activities.

Participants will be housed in shared occupancy hotel accommodations throughout the program.

Six breakfasts and six dinners (including a post-parade picnic) are included in the program cost. Any other meals are not included and are the responsibility of the participant, to be paid individually and in addition to the program cost.

The program abroad fee is $1,800.*

  • Cost of applying for a new or renewed passport (approximately $150) - participants should ensure that their passport meets the validity requirements to enter France per the guidelines at (see the "Travel" tab of this brochure for more information)
  • Travel insurance: the Office of Education Abroad highly recommends the purchase of travel insurance should personal or global circumstances prevent your participation in the program. You are encouraged to consider obtaining travel insurance and to keep in mind that many travel insurance policies must be purchased within twenty-one days of your initial deposit to apply.
*Program fee is based on tariffs, costs, and exchange rates at the time of publication and is subject to change based on these factors.

The program fee is $1,800.00.*

Students will only be able to submit program payments once they have completed an online application via the Office of Education Abroad and their application status changes to "Approved - To be Confirmed." Additional information is available in the application once started.

Applicants accepted into the program after an established payment deadline are immediately responsible for the existing total program balance as it stands at the time of their acceptance. No arrangements will be made on behalf of the participant until payment of this balance is received. 

Making Payments

All payments should be made online via the study abroad application portal directly. Please see the application portal for instructions on making payments. Students will only be able to submit program payments once they have completed an online application via the Office of Education Abroad and their application status changes to "Approved - To be Confirmed." 



Applications will be reviewed by the Program Directors upon receipt of the completed online application and any other application requirements specific to the program (refer to the online application).

If your application for the program is approved, you are not considered an enrolled program participant until you confirm your intent to participate in the program by completing BOTH of the following:
  • Submit any payments due at the time of acceptance into the program (per the schedule above)
  • Read and electronically sign the “Agreement to Participate” in your online study abroad portal
Applicants approved after payment deadlines have passed are immediately responsible for payment of the full program balance as it stands (per the schedule above) at the time of acceptance. For example, applicants approved after the second payment deadline must sign the "Agreement to Participate" and submit the first three payments in order for the confirmation steps to be considered complete.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Participant rosters must be sent to the program provider by specific dates, which is why completing the confirmation steps by the indicated deadlines is important. If you have not completed the confirmation steps/applicable payments by a given payment/confirmation deadline, you will not be added to the participant roster sent to the provider (and no arrangements will be made on your behalf) until after the next payment deadline in the schedule, and only if you have completed the confirmation steps by the next payment deadline. Applicants must complete the confirmation steps by the final payment deadline at the latest. Otherwise, your participation in the program cannot be guaranteed. 

For information on the program's withdrawal and refund policies, approved applicants should reference the "Agreement to Participate" signature document within their application portal.
Responsibility — UNC Charlotte, its employees and agents, act only as agents in operating this program and are not liable for any loss, delay, injury, or damage to person or property resulting from any cause beyond the control of the operating agents.

The operating agents reserve the right to alter this program at their discretion without prior notice to participants. The program director reserves the right to refuse to retain any person as a member of this program in which case no refund is made.

No refunds are possible for service not used by participants after the program is in operation. Any additional expense resulting from illness, accident, natural disasters, wars, strikes, riots, acts of governments, improper passports, visas or necessary traveling documents, or from any conditions whatsoever beyond the control of the operating company are to be borne by the individual participant.

The airlines concerned are not to be held responsible for any act, omission, or event during time passengers are not on board their planes. The passengers' contract in use by the airlines concerned, when issued shall constitute the sole contract in use between the airlines and purchasers and/or passengers. Any IATA carrier may be flown.

Travel Tab Content

All participants are expected to travel together on the program dates as indicated in the “Schedule” tab of this brochure and must attend all program activities and events. The Program Directors will contact participants with information regarding the program’s travel arrangements in late 2017 or early 2018.
All participants are responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate documentation to obtain entry clearance to their host country by early February, 2018.

All participants must have a valid passport to participate in this program by early February 2018. For instructions on how to obtain a passport, U.S. citizens should visit the U.S. Department of State’s website. Passport applications are also processed on UNC Charlotte's campus at Union Station. The Office of Education Abroad does not process passport applications nor issue passports, but provides general resources on the OEA website.

Participants must consult the “Entry/Exit Requirements” section of the Department of State’s Country Specific Information website for the destination country to familiarize yourself with what will be required to enter the country (US citizens). 
Non-US citizens must contact the host country’s embassy to enquire whether a visa is required to enter the country, and what the applicable requirements will be. Non-U.S. citizens should also contact the UNC Charlotte International Students/Scholars Office to ensure that they have the appropriate documentation to re-enter the U.S. upon completion of the program. Please notify the Office of Education Abroad as soon as possible if you require specific information to accompany a visa application for your host country. 

The Office of Education Abroad is not authorized to advise on visa policies and procedures.
