Announcements : Summer 2021 Study Abroad Programming Cancelled

Announcement: Summer 2021 Study Abroad Programming Cancelled

Regretfully, UNC Charlotte has made the difficult decision to cancel all remaining education abroad programs for Summer 2021. The OEA has been monitoring countries around the world and several factors have led to this final decision including; a slower than expected and globally unequal distribution of vaccines, more contagious virus variants appearing in multiple countries around the world, shifting entry/quarantine restrictions for many countries and unknowns about the possibility of vaccine requirements for travel. These unpredictable circumstances have ultimately led to the decision to cancel summer study abroad opportunities.

A decision not to offer study abroad programming goes against the very essence of our office's purpose, but at this time there are too many variables surrounding the summer. We do not foresee the circumstances substantially improving in the coming few months when financial commitments will have to be made; therefore we are cancelling now so that students can prepare for alternative opportunities for this summer.

Students interested in exploring virtual international opportunities, including virtual internships, available for this summer, please reach out to Beth Lorenz to discuss your options.

For students wishing to study abroad in a term beyond Fall 2021, please visit our website for an approximate time when we will open applications for future terms.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office. FAQs can be found on our website here

The OEA appreciates your understanding and patience of this very difficult decision.
