The Business School of the University of Mannheim is one of the largest and most renowned business facilities in Europe. However, students can study more than just Business. Referred to as the “Harvard of Germany”, the University of Mannheim is known as one of the world most prestigious places of study. The Mannheim Palace is your everyday background as the school is located in the palace of Karl Phillips III. The open grounds and German architecture adds to the prestige of the University. For leisure, Mannheim is well known for shopping and sports. The famous "Planken" is located here, a pedestrian area full of cafes and shops. The Marktplatz of the city has a picturesque market three times a week. There are many types of popular sports such as tennis, squash, hiking, and bicycle tours. Thanks to numerous solariums, there are indoor pool areas, even in the winter! The Ice Centre Herzogenried is an ice sports center that may also be an area of interest.
Mannheim is a modern city located in a beautiful region in the northwestern corner of the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is only 35 minutes away from Frankfurt International airport and is a perfect starting point to explore Germany and the rest of Europe.

Internship

UNC students studying in Baden-Wuerttemberg for at least one semester have internship opportunities available in addition to their study abroad experience. This opportunity is offered through any of the nine research universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg to students in fields of study in: Business, Engineering, MIS, Technology, and other STEM subjects. Several time line options are offered:

Full-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester), followed by an internship in a company or a research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities.
Students who participate in this internship experience have the opportunity to receive payment, through either a scholarship from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung or a paid internship at a company.

Part-Time:
Studying abroad in BW for one semester (autumn/winter semester) and completing the research internship at one of the 9 BW research universities during the same semester with hours ranging from 10 to 15 per week. Payment: A scholarship by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stiftung: amount variable (depending on working hours and length of the internship).

Depending on placement, German skills may be highly recommended. Students interested in the internship opportunity should speak with their study abroad advisor.
